Returning to our partner schools is always a good idea, as it allows us to assess the impact of our previous efforts and identify areas where further support is needed. This time, we chose to end the month at Patandi Maalum Secondary School, where we distributed reusable sanitary pads and underwear to girls in need.
Menstruation can be a challenging time for many girls, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Lack of access to proper sanitary products often leads to absenteeism from school, hindering their education and overall well-being. By providing reusable sanitary pads and underwear, we aim to alleviate this burden and empower these girls to stay in school without any interruptions.
The distribution event was met with great enthusiasm from both the students and staff at Patandi Maalum Secondary School. The girls were grateful for the support they received and expressed their excitement about being able to manage their periods more comfortably. The teachers also appreciated our efforts in addressing this often overlooked aspect of female hygiene.
Nothing is as rewarding as being able to honor our commitment to menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) in schools. Recently, we had the opportunity to visit Patandi Maalum Secondary School, in collaboration with Hearts of Sunshine, to provide MHH products and raise awareness about this important issue.
Patandi Maalum is a coeducational school that caters specifically to students living with disabilities. As advocates for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we strongly believe in the core commitment of “leaving no one behind.” Our education all month every month motto continues to guide us in ensuring that every student has access to proper menstrual hygiene resources.
